Essex Watch Liaison Officers (EWLO’S) are employed by Essex Police to facilitate a number of Crime Prevention Watch Schemes, The biggest and most important of them being your local NHW Scheme, and take an active part in ensuring that NHW throughout the county receives support and help, where ever possible, when needed.

All EWLO’s are aware that NHW is an independent charity run by dedicated volunteers and the support provided is within that context.

EWLO’s also help run many other Watch’s and they include the following,

Neighbourhood Watch, Farm Watch, Faith/Church Watch, Park Watch, Caravan Watch, Allotment Watch, Dog Watch, Hospital Watch, Business Watch, Taxi Watch, Marine Watch, and many more.

They maintain a professional support system in relation to the varied Watch groups in operation and encourage two way flow of information/ intelligence to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.

They work closely with the local Crime Prevention Tactical Advisor (CPTA) who is always on hand to offer advice and support where needed.

Each District or Borough has its own EWLO representing their particular area and have regular contact with each other to share best practice and to maintain consistency.

Not only do they work with the general public they also work closely with partner agencies including the local authority to maintain a good working relationship.

EWLO’s attend local public meeting, upon invitation, to publicise the work of the partnership and also the gather residents opinion and feedback which is disseminated accordingly. The EWLO support by the CTPA’s attend local community’s events like summer fetes to promote setting up new NHW scheme and crime prevention.
